OSWEGO – The Oswego community joined artists Jessica Culligan and Emily Holm along with the Dr. Mary Edwards Walker Celebratory Committee on Thursday for the unveiling of a new mural in tribute to the late icon. Both the Committee and the artists were committed to capturing the fierce determination of a young Dr. Walker as she would have looked during her service in the Civil War. It was for her war-time valor that she was awarded a Medal of Honor, making her the first and, so far, only female recipient. Pictured are artists Holm (left) and Culligan (right) who were presented with a plaque that will hang next to the mural this fall. It will be located just off the sidewalk on the south side of river’s end bookstore, 19 W. Bridge St., Oswego, near the corner of West First Street.
