Parents and guardians accompanied the children to the events to learn pertinent information about the school setting, learning standards and benchmarks for social growth and fine motor skills.

The youngsters were given an opportunity to play and pick-up their toys, learn basic classroom rules and find their locker or personal cubby space.

According to the Center for Public Education, students who attend UPK show significant cognitive gains, exceed in kindergarten assessments and are more apt to graduate high school. UPK classes are offered through each Fulton City School District elementary building: Fairgrieve, Lanigan, Granby and Volney.

The district’s 2017-18 UPK program began Sept. 7.
