FULTON, NY – When it comes to hosting the largest golf tournament in Oswego County, the United Way realizes that it wouldn’t happen without the many volunteers who lend their time and talents to make it possible.
Nearly three dozen volunteers will be at the Greenview Country Club in West Monroe as the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s 15th Annual Golf Classic tees off on July 9.
From putting together goodie bags for the golfers, to registration and placing hole signs, volunteers do it all to make sure that the tournament runs as smoothly as possible.
According to United Way Resource Development Director Lois Luber, the role that the volunteers play has become so integral that the event now has a volunteer coordinator to oversee and assist the other volunteers.
“With the amount of volunteers we have, our planning committee decided that it was time to have a volunteer coordinator who would organize the jobs which the volunteers are responsible for. To ensure that our volunteers have as much fun as our golfers, volunteer coordinator Cindy Albro of Farnham Family Services, along with committee support leaders, Jeff Grimshaw and Judy Proud have matched each volunteer’s duties with their skills and interests and has made sure that our volunteers will be as comfortable as possible for the duration of the event. Some of our volunteers actually help out before and after the event so that they may also enjoy golfing as well. For example, the teams from Novelis help with the placement of hole signs prior to tee off. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers who unselfishly donate their time to helping their United Way. We could not do it without them and I salute them for their efforts,†said Luber.
The golf classic will be held at Greenview Country Club in West Monroe with a full field of 52 teams.
Major plus sponsors for the event include: Entergy, Constellation Energy Nuclear Group Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, and Burritt Motors.
National Grid and Novelis are major sponsors.
There will be plenty of giveaways and prizes, with each golfer being eligible for, longest drive and closest to the pin prizes.
In addition, each golfer can review their golf swing with their copy of the Capture Action Video.
Interested golfers will also have the opportunity to sign up for the skins contest and purchase tickets to the Turning Stone Resort Classic, Aug. 2 through 8.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the United Way through the Upstate New York Empowerment Fund.
