OSWEGO, NY – Annually historic figures come to life (well sort of) as Frederick Leighton Elementary teacher Tom Wiegand has his students create a wax museum.
What visitors to the classroom view are figures of well-known and sometimes lesser-known, persons who have made a difference.
However, this project is much more than the final event.
Throughout the weeks prior to the exhibition students research, write about and learn as much as possible about their person.
This year students became totally involved in this genuine learning experience.
Wiegand always unveils a unique theme.
And, this year was no different.
He wrote a letter to visitors in regards to their time they would spend at Wiegand Nuclear Technologies.
He noted, “Our nuclear scientists have been working endlessly preparing for the latest advancement from WNT.”
Wiegand asked the potential visitors to “come and visit our greatest achievement and discovery yet…the Wiegand Atomic X-ray or better known as W.A.X. This latest discovery has allowed Wiegand Nuclear Technologies to re-create exact replicas of some of the greatest and most influential people in all of society.”
So before WNT took this initiative globally he invited a select group of parents and FLS students to tour the project.
Among the creations that appeared on display were Anne Sullivan (Samarah Aherens), Sally Ride (Sophia Brosch), Israel Putnam (Nick Cali), Elizabeth Blackwell (Megan Cheeley), Wilber Wright (Kadin Davis), Malala Yousafzai (Emily Eastman), Harry Houdini (Kyle Familo), Clara Barton (Makayla Gioia), Nelson Mandela (Isaac Kangah), Shirley Muldowney (Jillian Knopp), Jane Goodall (Hailey Lemons), Orville Wright (Antonia Lombardo), Rosa Parks (Taylor Meaker), Norman Schwarzkopf (Hunter Mills), Samuel Woodfill (Collin Ouderkirk), Bill Gates (Ethan Rando) and Henry Ford (Emanuel Perry).
At the culmination of the event it was quite obvious that the WNT project was a tremendous success as visitors walked out impressed by the creations.
