WNYO-FM to host On-Air Fundraiser for OCO

OSWEGO – As part of its recognition of Community Action Month, Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) has partnered with SUNY Oswego’s WNYO, 88.9 FM and the University Police Department for a 24-Hour Charity Radio-Thon.

Beginning at 5:00 p.m. on May 3rd and continuing to 5:00 p.m. on May 4th community members are invited to tune in to WNYO, 88.9 FM to discover the many human services programs that OCO provides for families and individuals throughout Oswego County. Listeners will have the opportunity to call in and pledge their support for OCO and its efforts to improve the quality of life for those in need in our communities. The highlight of the radio-thon will be a live interview with OCO Executive Director Diane Cooper-Currier.

The Charity Radio-Thon marks the beginning of OCO’s recognition Community Action Month and its celebration of the 60th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s landmark Economic Opportunity Act. Part of Johnson’s “War on Poverty”, the purpose of the Economic Opportunity Act was to provide services, assistance, and other activities aimed at eliminating poverty and the causes of poverty. OCO and community action agencies throughout the country provide human services programs developed to address those issues through empowerment and improving people’s environment.

“What an exciting way to kick-off our Community Action Month celebration,” said OCO Development Coordinator Bridget Dolbear. “We are so thankful for the efforts of WNYO –FM and the University Police for making our charity Radio-Thon possible. I invite everyone to tune in to 88.9 FM between 5:00 p.m. May 3rd and 5:00 p.m. May 4th to learn more about OCO and the impact it has on the individuals and families that we serve.”
