OSWEGO, NY – Opening night is nearing for Agatha Christie’s classic “The Mousetrap.”
To emphasize the enduring quality of this work, in 2001 on the 25th anniversary of Christie’s death, the London Production was in its 49th year.
A staging at the Toronto Trunk Theatre in Ontario Province, Canada, opened Aug. 19, 1977, and became Canada’s longest running show before finally closing on Jan. 18, 2004 – talk about longevity!
Director Inez Manor Parker finds that Oswego audiences are no different.
They enjoy and clamor for a repeat every few years, thus, this latest revival.
Actors also enjoy the play as current repeaters Nelson Metz, Sherri Baker and Bobby Fontana (in the same role as 13 years ago) can attest.
One of the new actors to the cast, but no stranger to local stages, is the very talented Jonathan Altman.
Altman has extensive dramatic experience as demonstrated in his portrayal of the wayward priest in “The Runner Stumbles,” an excellent dramatic offering seldom seen in local venues – unfortunately.
Oswego audiences may also remember his fine rendition of John (no pun intended) in the summer musical, “Meet Me in St. Louis,” a couple of season’s back.
Jon makes a welcome addition to the “Mousetrap” cast and we hope to see more of him in future productions.
Completing the “MT” cast is newcomer Steve Standish (most recently in “The Hound of the Baskervilles”), Tammy Wilkinson and Chris and Dale Bixler.
Show dates are set for Feb. 18 and 19; 25 and 26 at 8 p.m., with a matinee on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
