OSWEGO – Canale’s restaurant in Oswego will host a dinner and a show on January 25th and 26th. The Saturday show on the 25th is already sold out, but tickets are still left for Sunday. One of the plays featured was written by the duo Juliet and Keith Giglio. They discuss their show that is being featured at Canale’s and their background in an interview.

Juliet and Keith Giglio have been married for 35 years. Juliet Giglio is the Director of Creative Writing and an associate professor at SUNY Oswego. Keith Giglio is a professor for the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. They are both currently tenured professors in Upstate but have lived in various places, including California. “We’ve been Upstate for 13 years now. We wanted to give our thoughts and prayers to the people affected by the fires in Palisades,” said Keith, “that was our home for many years. We moved here because I got a job to teach at the Newhouse School.”

“Early in our career, we decided on a lark to write together. It was 30 years ago and every time we would break up our writing partnership would pull us back together, said Juliet. “we’ve written 8 produced movies, 2 novels and countless other credits. We’ve been very blessed. Although they write together, they currently teach at separate schools. Juliet is tenured at SUNY Oswego, and Keith is tenured at Syracuse University.

Juliet and Keith met at NYU. “There is a term when you’re writing Rom-Com’s called a ‘meet-cute’. It’s when two characters meet in a really cute way. And we in fact did meet cute in an elevator, said Juliet. Keith said he was in the elevator with some friends. “Juliet walked on, and she looked very upset. I was a year ahead of her at the NYU graduate film program. I sensed that she had a bad script conference with a legendary professor, said Keith. “I probably said some stupid thing that was funny, and then she ran out. That night my favorite movie was showing at NYU, ‘Rocky’, and I saw Juliet walked in and she completely ignored me for 6 months, said Keith with a laugh. “We’ve gone back to ride that elevator a couple of times.”

The Giglio’s have worked with celebrities like Melissa Joan Hart and Reba McEntyre. They even exchange Christmas cards with Hart, who was in 3 of their films. The following list of their film credits is on their website, jkgiglio.com.

• “Return to Halloweentown (2006)

• “A Cinderella Story (2004)

While Giglio’s haven’t left behind screenwriting, they are excited to start a new journey in playwriting. On January 25th and 26th, Giglio’s one-act play, Broken Hipsters, will have its first showing. “It’s kind of like a screwball comedy, said Keith, “It opens with a realtor show an apartment, and a couple who used to live there had to move. They move to the suburbs thinking it’d be great, but they aren’t happy to each other. Keith says that the couple move to the original apartment they leave in the intro and become parent figures to its new young inhabitants.

“Broken Hipsters’ title comes from a Wall Street Journal article where they were talking about people who were moving back into Manhattan, people who are like us. This is where it’s a little autobiographical, said Juliet, “they discover they are trying to be hipsters again, but they are a little bit broken. There are four tenants of the building: an NYU filmmaker, an aspiring composer, an aspiring filmmaker, and an artist who is currently a tattoo artist. “These are loosely based on people we know, and we feel like there is something for everybody regardless of age, said Juliet. “It’s about never giving up on your dreams and that you are never too old to chase your dreams, said Keith.
