As “Herman,” the photogenic Noone appeared on the covers of many international publications, including a Time Magazine cover in April 1965 showing new faces in popular music.

“This year’s Harborfest cultural component is Great Britain/England,” said Tom VanSchaak, Harborfest executive director. “What better way to wrap up this year’s festival then with one of the truly great English entertainers from the British Invasion years.”

Herman’s Hermits sold more than 60 million records.

In all, 14 singles and seven albums went gold.

The Hermits were twice named Cashbox’s “Entertainer of the Year.”

Hit classics include: “I’m Into Something Good,” “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” “I’m Henry VIII, I Am” and “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat.”

In 1965 and 1966, Herman’s Hermits rivaled the Beatles on the American charts and was the top selling pop act in the United States in 1965.

Noone has performed on hundreds of top-rated television programs and appeared with such luminaries as Ed Sullivan, Jackie Gleason, Dean Martin and Danny Kaye.

Throughout the 1970s, Noone performed, composed songs and produced recordings with such artists as David Bowie, Debby Boone and Graham Gouldman.

He’s also appeared on Broadway in the New York Shakespeare Festival’s production of “Pirates of Penzance,” coincidentally this year’s Harborfest Children’s Musical, and appeared in such prime time television shows as “Married With Children,” “Quantum Leap,” “Too Close For Comfort” and “Laverne and
Shirley.”

Noone has a legion of faithful fans, known as “Noonatics” whose loyalty is unparalleled.

The Brian Lindsay Band opens the Sunday concert on the NRG Lakeview Stage in Breitbeck Park on July 31 at 1 p.m., followed by Magical Mystery Tour at approximately 3 p.m. with Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone culminating Harborfest 2011 at 5 p.m.

Harborfest 2011 is scheduled for July 28-31.

  1. They could have also asked Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown (who by the way married a Oswego girl and lives here) to play also. Could have made it a real British Invasion.
