Rehearsals have ended for Hannibal High School’s production of Little Shop of Horrors the theatrical presentation of the book by Howard Ashman scheduled for this Thursday and Friday, March 3 and 4 at 7:15pm and March 5 at 1:00pm. The score is by songwriter Alan Menken who has taken musical theater by storm as the composer of such award winning scores as “Beauty and the Beast” and “Tangled.” The cast and crew are looking forward to an exhilarating weekend finish with awesome performances and a grand celebration.
Derrick Phillips takes center stage as Seymour Krelbourn the rather unlikely hero of the story that has discovered a strange and unusual plant species with a disturbing appetite. “It’s been a challenge but I’m really excited to have the lead role my senior year. I can’t think of a better way to end my high school drama career.” The “Audrey II” is a carnivorous plant with a big appetite and an attitude to match. Another senior, Emily Weldin, Is the voice of the plant. Two other actors taking the stage for the last time are Sabrina Woodward, a member of the girl group that serves as the “Greek chorus” and Emily Terry who fills the roles of various characters throughout the show.
In addition to the seniors on stage Teresa Trout, our German foreign exchange student is playing the flute in the pit band and Anthony Nappa is lending his talents backstage this year as part of the stage crew. “It’s a bit different from being on stage but I am still glad to be part of the production.” Rounding out our stage crew are seniors Mary Lenhart and Steve Kingsley.
A big crowd is expected to acknowledge the cast’s success and recognize the contribution the seniors have made to musical theater in Hannibal. Due to limited seating patrons are advised to purchase their tickets in advance from members of the cast and crew. Tickets may also be purchased at the High School In the main office between 9am and 3pm when school is in session. Remaining tickets will be available at the door prior to the performance. Admission is $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and those ages 60 and over. Mark your calendar today and plan to join the celebration with the Hannibal High School Musical community this weekend.
