Oswego City Band to Celebrate 75 Years of Summer Concerts

Submitted by the Oswego City Band

The Summer Sunset Concert Series will officially celebrate 75 years of free concerts on August 25th @ 7:00pm in Breitbeck Park. The Oswego City Band will present the concert under the direction of Donald Goodness.

The highlight of the program will be the premiere of The Oswego City Band Suite by internationally known composer Arthur Frackenpohl. Also, 65 year City Band veteran George Cuppernull will perform the clarinet solo Interlude by John Morrissey.

“We’ve been planning this event for the past 2 years,” said Goodness. “It’s really a celebration for the whole community. 75 years of free concerts is a wonderful tradition that has been enjoyed by generations of Oswegonians. I hope the entire city will turn out for this concert.”

Goodness added, “The musicians and I would like to thank the City of Oswego administration and its citizens for their continued support of this wonderful music tradition and the Cultural Resources Council for funding the composition of The Oswego City Band Suite. We look forward to many more years of providing free concerts for Oswego.”
