“We are thrilled to have David Garibaldi return to Oswego to take part in our 40th anniversary fundraiser,” said Jeanne M. Unger, MS, Executive Director at Farnham Family Services. “Garibaldi’s artistic talents have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for non-profit organizations throughout the country, and we are honored to have him once again support our mission and services.”

“Rhythm and Hue” is a performance art show where artist David Garibaldi creates six-foot portraits of pop icons in minutes to music.

Garibaldi began combining rhythm and hue, music and color, while listening to hip-hop artists Run DMC and Snoop Dogg while painting graffiti with his middle school friends.  A high school animation teacher encouraged Garibaldi to take his passion for graffiti and turn it into a more positive direction. According to Garibaldi, he will never forget this support and more importantly the value of someone believing in him.

By 2003, Garibaldi began the transition from graffiti to canvas while combining the cultural influence of jazz. Garibaldi paints live throughout the world by transforming a blank black canvas into pop art icons through his “Rhythm and Hue” shows. Musical inspirations for Garibaldi include: Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, U2, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Beatles, Lady Gaga and Glitch Mob.

“There are a variety of events planned for the evening including a silent art auction, a live auction of David’s paintings from the event, performances by CNY musicians, appetizers and beverages, a paint brush raffle – which is currently going on, a Halloween costume contest, and much more,” said Unger. “We encourage the audience to come in costume for the event to add to the exciting atmosphere of David Garibaldi’s shows.”

Garibaldi has performed for Fortune 500 companies including AT&T, Intel and Disney. He has also been featured at charity events for Playboy, NBA, and celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Santana, Tommy Lee, Dave Navarro and Blue Man Group.

Every performance is an opportunity for Garibaldi to give back to the community, either through teaching youth or providing resources.

Garibaldi’s art is now an international brand and has been made into posters, clothing apparel and iPhone cases. He is a featured Disney Fine Artist and has secured licensing rights for Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley and Elvis Presley.

Garibaldi has also been featured on numerous networks like MTV, NBC, UPN, PBS, along with worldwide publications such as Art World News, Art Business News, and Yahoo! News.

In a few short years, Garibaldi has raised over $700,000 for nonprofits and charities across the country through his artistic creations. By 2013, he will reach a personal goal to help raise over $1 million for nonprofit organizations. He works closely with charities such as Special Olympics, Echoes of Hope, Sacramento Children’s Home and World Vision. To learn more about David Garibaldi visit www.garibaldiarts.com.
