Quirk’s Players of G. Ray Bodley High School are pleased to announce that their spring, 2011 musical will be Disney’s family favorite, Beauty & The Beast. The production will run Thursday, March 10th through Saturday, March 12th, 2011 and will be presented in the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium. There will be four performances; curtain time is set for 7:30 P.M. each evening with a 2:00 P.M. matinee on Saturday as well.
Based on the Disney film of the same name, Beauty & The Beast is the story of a spoiled, selfish prince who has been transformed into a “beast” by a beautiful enchantress. He has taken refuge in his castle, along with his servants who have also been turned into enchanted objects. He is doomed to remain a beast until he can fall in love with someone else and earn her love in return. When the beautiful Belle stumbles upon the castle in search of her missing father, everyone wonders if she is THE one who can break the spell. Disney’s Beauty & The Beast is a fun show filled with memorable characters and popular songs such as, “Be Our Guest,” “Gaston,” “Something There,” “If I Can’t Love Her,” “Human Again,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
Featured in Bodley High School’s production of Beauty & The Beast are a combination of veteran and new actors. Junior Nate Hawthorne portrays the Beast, while senior Chelsea Avery plays the beautiful Belle. Tommy Butler will play Belle’s Father, Maurice. Alex Bawarski will play the pompous and arrogant Gaston while Nate Deavers portrays Gaston’s comic sidekick, Lefou. Mark Wettering will play the role of M. D’Arque. Enchanted objects at the Beast’s castle include Lumiere, portrayed by Neil Devendorf; Cogsworth, played by Zach Mizener; Babette, played by Sara Jay and Mme. de La Grande Bouche, played by Amanda Trombly. The role of Mrs. Potts will be portrayed by GRB senior Clare Bawarski. Max Wood, a fifth grader at Lanigan Elementary, will play Mrs. Potts’s son, Chip.
The company includes a large number of students who play villagers, enchanted objects and small character rolls. They are: Justin Armour, Alaina Campolieta, Logan Carvey, Katelyn Caza, Brad Crofoot, Ryann Crofoot, Bella DeGelorm, Jenna Doherty, Julie Duval, Gwen Gibson, Danielle Gillett, Kylee Greenleaf, Markus Harter, Kayla Hatch, Mackenzie Hayden, Stephen Heywood, Michael Holcomb, Haiden Johnson, Mitchell Lalik, Kaitlyn Lauber, Angie Lewchanin, Anja Mayer, Joe Medico, Mark Parry, Alexis Pawlewicz, Laura Perwitz, Sarah Perwitz, Mysteria Pike, Christine Proud, Bayley Raponi, Victoria Reitz, Dylan Rizzo, Morgan Stafford, Ean Stevenson, Ian Taft, Amanda Tetro, Krista Vann, Brandon Webb, Krysta Woodcock and Kara Yakel.
Disney’s Beauty & The Beast is under the direction of Tom Briggs, theatre director at G. Ray Bodley High School and faculty advisor to Quirk’s Players. Tom Nami, a vocal music teacher at G. Ray Bodley is the music director and will conduct the pit orchestra. Rob Lescarbeau of the GRB English Dept. will serve as assistant director and the stage manager/technical director. Debbie Ritchey of CNY Costumes is designing costumes, with wigs by Karen Procopio.
Quirk’s Players is the student theatre troupe at G. Ray Bodley High School. Named in memory of Mr. William Quirk, a long-time English teacher and theatre director at both Fulton High School and G. Ray Bodley High School, the group presents two main productions a year and participates in at least one high school theatre festival. Most recently, Quirk’s Players presented the fast paced comedy, Unnecessary Farce this fall as well as the Broadway musical, The Sound of Music, last year.
