OSWEGO, NY – As the end of the Oswego Players’ very successful 75th Anniversary Season draws near, it seems appropriate to give credit to those who work so hard behind the scenes to support the work of the director and actors in a show. These are the people who never get a rest. As soon as one show hits the boards, they are working on the set design and implementation for the next one.
Imagine how boring it would be to watch a performance on a bare and unlit stage.
These hard-working and dedicated members are Ken Snow, along with the Berlin family – Norman Jr., Sonia and Norman III, and are the unsung heroes of the foundation for all Players’ performances. They build the sets, make sure everything works properly and maintain the inside of the Oswego Arts Center building, which this year celebrates its 100th birthday.
You will see their names in the programs, but perhaps little realize how important they truly are.
Without them, our “little gem of a theatre” could not function. These folks work diligently behind the curtains, and give as much, if not more at times, than the on-stage performers. They serve without recognition or applause, yet their efforts are crucial to the on-going success of our community organization.
As an audience member, the next time you visit the Frances Marion Brown theatre (hopefully for our next presentation, “On Borrowed Time,”) please take pause to admire and appreciate the work that goes into the backdrop for whichever show you happen to see.
The director of OBT, Richard Mosher, also deserves mention as he built his own set, and designs and runs the lighting you see for many other directors’ endeavors.
Cast members for “On Borrowed Time” include Beverly Murtha, Troy Pepper, Norman Berlin, III, Anne Raynor, Joni Anderson, Wayne Mosher, Peter Mahan, Matthew Oldenburg, Jim Oldenburg, Michael Moss, Kyle Walton, Jonathan C. Altman, Zach Dumott and Tippy (Betty the Dog).
The drama will open November 15 at 8 p.m., in the Frances Marion Brown Theatre in the Oswego Arts Center at Fort Ontario.
Performances will continue November 16 at 8 p.m. and the following weekend, November 22 and 23 at 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on November 24.
Ticket prices are $10/adults; $8/seniors and $7/students.
