PULASKI – The Salmon River Fine Arts Center is proud to announce continued generous funding for the Richard S. Shineman Young Artist Experience (YAE) after-school art program for children in the Pulaski area.
In a region where access to arts programming can be limited, the YAE program offers children ages 5 and up monthly opportunities to explore creative expression through engaging, hands-on projects that go far beyond the traditional classroom art experience. Thanks to the Shineman Foundation’s support, this program provides a nurturing, inclusive space where young artists can thrive.
“Thanks to the support of the Shineman Foundation, we’re able to give young people in our community a place to dream, create, and build confidence through art,” said Brooke Morse, Program Coordinator at the Salmon River Fine Arts Center. “This program isn’t just about making art—it’s about empowering children with a voice and a sense of belonging.”Participants in the 2025 sessions have experimented with a variety of techniques and materials—from whimsical dioramas and garden art parties to botanical printmaking, papier-mâché, ceramics, and acrylic painting. Each lesson is designed to inspire creativity, encourage personal expression, and build artistic skills.
To celebrate the achievements of these young artists, the Salmon River Fine Arts Center will host the Richard S. Shineman Young Artist Experience Student Art Show, beginning June 16, 2025, for one week. The show will feature a vibrant collection of student-created works that reflect a year of exploration, growth, and imagination.
The YAE program is held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., offering not just enriching instruction but also essential after-school care, including a nutritious snack and bus drop-off directly at the art center with a permission note. With a class size capped at eight students per session, each child receives individual attention and builds strong connections with their peers and instructors.
Crucially, the Shineman Foundation’s continued generosity ensures this opportunity is financially accessible to all families through a “pay what you can” model, with sliding scale contributions between $5–$20 per session and full scholarships available—no questions asked.
