The Art Association of Oswego (AAO) announces a winter concert and open house

Frank & Julie

The Art Association of Oswego (AAO) announces a winter concert and open house Sunday,
February 4th, 3-6pm as the first of its “Fab Feb” events. Other “Fab Feb” events include, an
open poetry, spoken word and music event “Women’s Voices” (2/23) a new art exhibition
“Abstraction to Floral, Suzanne Gaffney Beason” (2/23) and a singer-songwriter workshop by
Vance Gilbert (2/25). Each week Pottery Open Studio is offered Thursdays at 5pm and Open
Painting Studio is offered Wednesdays at 10am. The events are part of an ongoing effort to vary
AAO’s cultural offerings and to collaborate with other organizations including the Oswego
Players theater group who have kindly offered the use of their Frances Marion Brown Theater
for the February 4th event.
Concert headliners Frank & Julie perform around New York at various venues from vineyards
and private parties to local restaurants and bars and benefits. They have also participated in
music festivals such as in Chico, CA in fall, 2023. Their musical palette consists of originals,
classic rock, reggae, and blues with some pop tunes to round out the vibe. Comprised of Frank
Stepanek and Julie Elizabeth Clement, they have a unique blend of bass and guitar with warm
vocal harmonies and alternating lead vocal roles. Frank has toured internationally for over 30
years with the international reggae band from Jamaica Black Uhuru. With that group he has also
been part of NPR’s Tiny Desk concerts, VH1 Live, Glastonbury Festival (England) and 3 three
Grammy Award nominations.
Also performing is the Oswego-based acoustic duo Avalon composed of singer-songwriters
Michael Judge and Juliet Forshaw. They perform original music that blends folk, classical and
musical theater styles. Their performances feature a wide range of instruments, striking vocal
harmonies, and the occasional prop. Their lyrics explore the highs and lows of life through myth
and fable.
This event will feature various musical and historic posters.
Interactive demonstrations of AAO’s printmaking facilities will be offered Sunday, 3-5pm.
Informal tours of it’s highly active ceramic studio will be offered from 3-6pm.
This event serves as a fundraiser for AAO’s summer art programs for youth with a suggested
donation of $7. Light refreshments will be provided.
AAO is a non-profit organization that consistently contributes to Oswego’s cultural landscape.
Public events include but are not limited to free art exhibitions and low-cost community art
classes. The Art Association of Oswego and the Frances Marion Brown Theater are located in
Building 30 of the Fort Ontario complex across from the parking lot of the fort itself.
AAO may be reached at 315-216-6782, [email protected] and www.oswegoarts.org.
