Fall into Family Fun!

Enjoy the crisp scent of autumn and celebrate the fall harvest with these community events.

On Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28 visit the 25th annual Apple Festival in Goettel Community Park on Route 11 in Central Square. Hosted by the Lioness Club, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. Bring the kids to enjoy amusement rides, games, crafts, live entertainment and food. Parking is free and admission for those aged 13 and older is a $1 donation.

The 3rd annual Art in the Square event takes place on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Located at Abbott’s Lake Country Studio on Route 11 in Central Square, the event features live music by Gypsy Red, demonstrations by artisans and fine craftsman and a variety of food vendors. Admission is free.

The Salmon River Fish Hatchery will hold an open house on Saturday, September 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy children’s activities, fishing seminars and environmental education programs at the hatchery on county Route 22 in Altmar. Admission is free.

There is something for the whole family to enjoy at Godfrey’s Fall Celebration. It is open from 12 to 5 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday throughout the month of October. Find your way out of a hay bale and corn maze, take a relaxing wagon ride and enjoy seasonal refreshments at Godfrey’s Last Stand on state Route 264 in Schroeppel. Admission for the event is free and a donation is suggested for the wagon ride.

On Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5, visit the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival in Oswego. Located in Washington Square on East Fourth and Bridge Streets, the event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. All weekend, enjoy entertainment, food, games, rides and crafts. The giant pumpkin weigh-in takes place on Saturday. Admission is free.

Fall in love with alpacas this season with two open houses at local farms. On Sunday, Oct. 5, Willow Creek Farm on Lakeshore Road in Fulton is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The following weekend, the Salmon River Alpaca Farm on Albion Cross Road in Pulaski will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12. Visitors can learn about and visit with the alpacas, watch spinning and knitting demonstrations, enjoy refreshments and find alpaca products. Admission is free for both events.
