OSWEGO — The Oz Roller Girls jumped out of a fast 40-4 lead and never looked back in topping the ManchVegas Roller Girls 150-100 for Oswego’s seventh straight victory.
A balanced scoring attack helped Oz improve its record to 9-2 in its debut season. Certified Public Assassin led the way with 38 points, followed by Crushed Red Pepper and Insane Assilem with 20 points each. J-Rock-It added 17, Mass Jennocide scored 16, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em 14, Cee Cee Boom 11, Masso-Kiss-Tic Mandy 9 and Kannonball Kat-astrophe 5.
Chick Anery starred at jammer for ManchVegas, rolling up a team-high 46 points and winning lead in all 10 jams in which she was in this scoring role. Kutthroat Krystal added 23 points, Ima Menace 17, Trixi Driver 9 and Malice in Chains 5 for ManchVegas.
Oz established the tone and momentum on the first jam in Oswego’s Crisafulli Rink. Certified Public Assassin put up 20 points including four grand slams — when a jammer legally passes all five members of the opposing team — helped by solid blocking and defense by teammates Crushed Red Pepper, Kannonball Kat-astrophe, Rock ‘Em Sock’ Em and Short Fuse.
After Chick Anery scored 4 points for ManchVegas in the second jam, Oz countered in the third jam with another 20-point outburst. Crushed Red Pepper scored the points at jammer, with another four grand slams, boosted by a line of Certified Public Assassin, Insane Assilem, Mass Jennocide and Electric Sher.
Chick Anery broke through for nine points in the seventh jam to bring ManchVegas within 57-18, but J-Rock-It counted with an 11-point jam to build the Oz lead back up to 68-18.
Mass Jennocide’s eight-point jam put the Oz lead at 86-35, but ManchVegas closed the first half with back-to-back eight-point jams by Chick Anery and Kutthroat Krystal to pull within 94-51 at intermission.
The two teams traded points back and forth much of the second half until Certified Public Assassin put things away with a 14-point jam near the end of the bout for a 150-92 Oz lead.
J-Rock-It took Most Valuable Player honors for Oz, while blocker Acute Pain earned MVP for ManchVegas.
