OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego High School Faust Theatre for the Performing Arts stage will be alive with the sound of music as the students present the annual musical on Feb. 10-11 at 7:30 p.m.
This year the popular and fun loving “Sound of Music” will once again be brought to life.
For several months the students, under the direction of Veronica Shaver, Eve Phillips and Laurel Artz, have been working to produce this theatre classic.
The story is quite familiar as it is based in Austria in the late 1930s.
A young woman named Maria, played by Emily Hurlbutt, is failing miserably in her attempts to become a nun.
Widower, Captain George Von Trapp, played by Zemiah Phrance, seeks a governess that can handle his seven mischievous children.
Maria is given the job and by the end of the play everyone has fallen in love. However, due to the rise of Adolph Hitler they must flee Austria for Switzerland.
The children are played by Samantha Davis, Nick William, Rachel Leotta, Matthew Oldenburg, Emily Bradshaw, Miranda Gilbert and Hayley Bandla.
A huge cast has been rehearsing and includes Hannah Allen as Sister Bertha, Maddie Neuland as Sister Margaretta, Lauren Dafoe as Sister Sophia and Jane Coty as Mother Abbess.
Marcus Wolf has the role of the butler while the housekeeper is Alena Fresch.
The cast also includes Cameron Caruso (Rolf Gruber), Eve Simmonds (Elsa Schrader), Liz Westcott (Ursula), Joshua Ewig (Max Detweiler), Joe Ruggio (Herr Zeller), Matthew McLaughlin (Baron Elberfeld), Catherine Wells (Baroness Elberfeld), and Justin Abbott (Admiral Von Schreiber).
The chorus that includes the neighbors, nuns, novices, postulants and contestants include Abby Allen, Kaylie Allen, Logan Angelina, Kaylee Baldwin, Tati Berkley, Adele Castelain, Ben Chatterton, Erin Chetney, Katelyn Clary, Erin Delaney, Rhonda Mae Dianang, Laurelling Easton, Emily Fleischman, Taylor Gibbs, Hannah Griffin, Taylor Hammer, Sienna Handley, Julia Knight, Adrienn MacDougall, Courtney Osmun, Khalil Rivera, Kaela Shafer, Ryan Smith, Matt Spaulding, Calie Spedding and Tara Stacy.
The show is packed with well known songs including Do Re Me, Climb Every Mountain, My Favorite Things and So Long, Farewell.
The Oswego High School Music Department is presenting the performance and tickets can be reserved by calling 342-2432.
Adult tickets are $10 with students (K-12) $7.
Remaining tickets will be available at the box office on the night of each performance.
