OSWEGO, NY – Nancy Weber, the first woman president of the Farm Bureau, was the guest speaker for the Oswego Association of Business and Professional Women during the September 17 meeting at Vona’s Restaurant in Oswego.
As a long-time dairy farmer in Mexico and representative on the CNY Regional Economic Development Committee, Weber spoke to the group of working women and retirees about women in agriculture.
Oswego County apples and Got Milk? pencils with cow erasers were given to members as a takeaway.
The Oswego Association of Business and Professional Women membership includes working women and retirees.
We support local groups and organizations.
We contribute to Human Concerns Food Pantry and focus on a Thanksgiving cash/food drive for them.
We also adopt needy families at Christmas and provide gifts and food.
Each year we award a scholarship to a local female graduate of Oswego High School.
Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at Vona’s at 6 p.m. with the exception of July and August.
We are encouraging new membership now.
If interested in joining this group of women please reach out to Pat Cole, membership committee, at 342-2455.
Our collect said before each meal and meeting: Keep us O God from pettiness; let us be large in thought, word, deed. Let us be done with fault finding and leave off all self seeking; May we put away all pettiness and meet each other face to face without self pity and without prejudice. May we never be hasty in judgment and always be generous. Let us take time for all things; make us grow calm, serene, gentle. Teach us to put into action our better selves, straight forward and unafraid. May we realize it is the little things that create differences, And O Lord God, let us remember to be kind.
