A U.S. Army Major recently visited Lura M. Sharp Elementary School to thank students for sending over letters of encouragement while he served a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
“Thank you for writing to me while I was in Afghanistan,” Major Del Boyer told students. “I look around at your names and recognize each and every one.”
Boyer recently returned stateside after serving his third tour of duty, including his second in Afghanistan.
Boyer, who pilots helicopters, is currently stationed at Fort Drum. Students wrote to Boyer during his latest tour, thanking him for his service to the country.
During his visit, Boyer also discussed several topics with the students, including the age-old question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
To the pleasure of Boyer, student Reese Woolson said he wishes to serve his country and enter the U.S. Army.
“If you study hard and do the right things, I promise you can achieve great things,” Boyer said.
