OSWEGO – Fort Ontario State Historic Site will host a “Wreaths Across America Day” program Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public is invited to make wreaths with natural evergreens in the Enlisted Men’s Barracks and place them at the graves of the 77 officers, enlisted men, and their family members buried in the Post Cemetery.

Materials, refreshments, and admission to the program and ceremony are free.

The wreath-laying ceremony will be at 2 p.m.

The fort’s museum shop will be open for holiday shoppers during the day.

Fort Ontario is one of more than 1,200 military cemeteries, including Arlington National Cemetery, participating in the annual Wreaths Across America program.

The annual event is held every second or third Saturday of December.

AmeriCorps member Corey King will lead the program.

King’s position is sponsored by Friends of Fort Ontario.

Participants are encouraged to dress warmly and be prepared to be outside at the Post Cemetery.
