FULTON, NY – Teens can grow bacteria in the morning, join a code blue response drill at midday, and compete in wheelchair races in the afternoon during the 7th annual Medical Academy of Science and Health (M.A.S.H. Camp) at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital this summer.

Kristina Rathbun tries out the cross-training equipment in the Rehabilitative Services Department while Physical Therapist Laurie Mills looks on.The two-day camp takes place Aug. 19 and 20 from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the hospital, 510 S. Fourth St., Fulton.

Teens entering 8th or 9th grade in September are eligible to apply.

Camp is co-sponsored by the hospital, the Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC), and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. To apply, those interested may go to www.cnyahec.org and download the paperwork, or call the hospital’s education office at 591-9868. Deadline is July 18.

“M.A.S.H. Camp is a great hands-on learning experience for teens considering a future health career,” said Rebecca Bettinger, R.N., the hospital’s patient-community educator. “They are introduced to more than a dozen departments and hundreds of jobs – all of which are vital components in the hospital’s operation.”
