Harborfest Calls Upon Community Members For Support

OSWEGO, NY – For many of the thousands of visitors to Oswego’s beautiful waterfront, the annual Harborfest in July is the highlight of the summer, if not the year.

As the free-admission live music festival nears, it calls upon local businesses, individuals and families to consider donating what they can to help continue the tradition.

Oswego Harbor Festivals, Inc., the organizer of the event, is a registered not-for-profit organization.

Every year, its budget starts over from scratch and fundraising efforts begin anew to raise the money needed to put on one of the largest scale free music festivals in New York State.

It’s no easy task for the small part-time staff and volunteer board members.

Carol Dillabough, business membership coordinator, said, “Oswego Harborfest hopes that we can count on all our great businesses to continue their support of this admission-free festival that brings approximately 100,000 people to our beautiful waterfront community. We always welcome new businesses to come on board as well.”

“In addition to being a spectacular event, the positive economic impact to the Oswego area is significant especially since many of the fest-goers will return to Oswego to visit our many museums, places of interest, restaurants and other business establishments, as well as take advantage of the many musical and cultural events and happenings that our great city has to offer throughout the year,” she added.

Gretchen Hanley, individual membership coordinator, said, “We rely on help from the community to make the festival as great as possible. Even the $25 membership helps more than people could imagine. Any money donated allows Harborfest to be the much-loved festival the community cherishes and can enjoy for free.”

Membership forms can be found at www.oswegoharborfest.com and the festival offers the option of donating online from anywhere, also available on the site.

Donations made at the 25-dollar level or more will receive recognition on the fest’s website.

More perks from being a member are included on the membership forms on the website.

Harborfest is one of the few admission-free music festivals in the country.

It was founded with the mission of creating nationally recognized festivals and events that attract and engage a broad and diverse audience, celebrate and build community and advance economic development in Oswego.

It would not be possible to continue the event without the massive continued support received from the city of Oswego, businesses, organizations, government entities, individuals and family members.
