Head Start Preschool continues to accept applications for registration for fall 2010. Head Start is a quality preschool program that enrolls 3- and 4-year-old children at no cost to families. The program’s primary goal is promoting school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children. Head Start Preschool recognizes that children learn best through hands-on experiences.
Classrooms are equipped with a variety of materials and resources that encourage students to explore, create, play, and learn. In addition, the program includes nutritious meals and snacks, promotes family involvement, offers support services, and screenings for vision and hearing. Each classroom is staffed with a teacher, teaching assistant, and classroom aide. Additional center staff include a family advocate, nurse, and cook.
Head Start Preschool has centers across Oswego County, enrolling children from all nine school districts. Applications for registration are still being accepted and waiting lists will be maintained for all centers throughout the year.
Head Start Preschool is available to families with incomes at or below federally set guidelines. Head Start is the longest running national school-readiness program in the United States. Since 1999, more than 4,400 children have been students of Head Start Preschool in Oswego County.
