The first big blast of winter is headed to Oswego County.
The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning. It begins at 3:00 p.m. Friday and runs through 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
The Weather Service says the snow should begin to the north, in Jefferson and Lewis counties. It will strengthen throughout Friday, according to the forecasters.
Saturday morning, the snow band should drift south into northern Oswego County. Late Saturday afternoon, snow should move further south into the heart of the county.
The Weather Service expects as much as a foot of new snow in the hardest-hit areas, with snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches an hour possible.
Driving could be difficult, as winds will be 20 to 30 miles an hour with gusts to 40 miles an hour.
