ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s and women’s cross country teams wrapped up the 2012 season after competing at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by the University of Rochester at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday afternoon. The Laker women finished 25th out of 39 teams with 673 points compared to the Laker men, who tied for 26th out of 44 squads with 770 points.
NYU took top honors in the men’s 8K race with 50 points, while St. Lawrence grabbed the women’s team title in the 6K race with 49 points.
Christina Sakowski (Jr., Cicero, N.Y.) was the first Laker female to cross the finish line with a time of 23:57 in 86th place. Katie Laris (Fr., Clay, N.Y.), who placed 132nd, recorded a time of 24:35 followed 15 seconds later by Meghan Murphy (So., Dix Hills, N.Y.) in 145th with a mark of 24:51. Barb Scheibel (So., Fabius, N.Y.) and Katie Bott (Jr., Camillus, N.Y.) were separated by two seconds at the end of the race, as Scheibel posted a time of 25:08 in 165th place and Bott finished in 25:10.
Damian Archie (Jr., Binghamton, N.Y.) paced the men’s squad with a time of 27:25 in 113th place. The next three Oswego State harriers to cross the finish line were separated by just seven seconds. Jeff Rozler (Sr., Eden, N.Y.) placed 148th with a time of 27:57 followed by Kyle Gilyard’s (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) time of 27:59, which was good for 153rd, and Ben Sweet’s (Jr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) time of 28:04, which was good for 157th. Nick Montesano (So., Apalachin, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with a result of 28:52 in 199th place.
