City of Oswego to Honor Fallen Firefighters

Mayor Proclamation - 2024 Fallen FF Weekend

OSWEGO – At the Common Council meeting last evening, Oswego Mayor Robert Corradino issued a proclamation designating May 1 through May 5 as Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend in the City of Oswego, NY. Mayor Corradino pledged support to honor the Oswego Firefighters who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty over the course of the history of the department.

This proclamation comes at the same time as National Fallen Firefighters Weekend and International Firefighters Day, both honoring and remembering Firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The City of Oswego will join other communities around the globe paying tribute to fallen members.

Mayor Corradino respectfully encouraged all members of the Oswego Community to display red lights outside their homes or businesses to show support for the “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” campaign. The mayoral proclamation also requests the American flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise May 1 to sunset May 5. Mayor Corradino explained that “Our Firefighters and Police Officers are the heroes and guardians of safety here in the City of Oswego, and I am proud to stand here alongside them as they honor their fallen members.”

Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone said “Honoring our fallen members is one of our greatest responsibilities and duties as Firefighters. I appreciate the show of support from Mayor Corradino, the city administration, and the Oswego Community.  It will be great to see the red lights on houses and businesses, and I look forward to our ceremony to properly honor our members and ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten.”

The City of Oswego Fallen Firefighter Memorial Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 3rd at 9am at Oswego Fire Department headquarters, 35 East Cayuga Street. Members of the public are encouraged to attend. A reception to follow will be held at the John D. Murray Firefighters Museum.
