Oswego County Sheriff’s Respond To A Drowning In The Town Of Sandy Creek

OSWEGO COUNTY – Yesterday, August 9th, 2026, at around 4:15 PM, members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for a water rescue at Sandy Island Beach State Park, located at 3387 County Route 15 in the Town of Sandy Creek.

Preliminary investigation revealed that three people were swimming when they were taken deeper into the lake by a current.  One made it to shore on their own and another was rescued by those nearby, including on duty lifeguards.  The third person, U Sai Fa, a 22-year-old man from Utica, NY, was reported as still missing from the incident.

About two hours later, at around 6:13 PM a body was located by Air 1 near the shore, just north of the area where U Sai was last seen swimming.  The body was brought to shore by first responders on scene and confirmed to be U Sai Fa, who was pronounced dead on scene.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Air 1, the New York State Police, McFee Ambulance, the Oswego County Dive Team, Sandy Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Constantia Volunteer Fire Department, Mexico Volunteer Fire Department, Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department, and Scriba Volunteer Fire Department.

This incident is still under investigation.
