FULTON – The cast of Legally Blonde Jr welcomes tiny dog Bruiser to the popular musical production slated to run May 5 – 14 at CNY Arts Center.

The annual all youth production features a cast of more than 20 Central New York youth under the direction of Adam Schmidtmann and Gina Holsopple with choreography by Jessie Dobrzynski.

Best known for the iconic 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde is the fast-paced energetic story of Elle Woods, an unlikely Harvard law student.

Elle wants to be Mrs. Warner Huntington III, but she is too blond for him.

He dumps her before heading off to Harvard.

Undaunted, she follows him determined to win him back.

Along the way she learns the important lesson of believing in herself no matter what others think.

The JR version presented at the Arts Center requires a cast all under the age of 18 and enrolled in school according to royalty requirements.

“It is a great opportunity for our young actors to conquer challenging roles written for adults in a mentor environment,” said director Adam Schmidtmann. “Also the themes of believing in yourself and treating everyone the same regardless of occupation or social standing are critical lessons for this age group. And it’s just plain fun too! We think audiences will really enjoy the kids singing and dancing onstage.”

Many of the actors are returning favorites onstage including Kaylee Foster as the lead, Elle, and Griffin Marriner as Warner Huntington III.

The directing team is the same leadership that delivered Seussical Jr last season.

The production runs two weekends with Friday and Saturday performances May 5, 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. and three matinee performances, May 6 and 7 and 14 at 3 p.m.

The Saturday matinee performance is a change in traditional evening performance times and offers an alternative for those who can’t attend on Sunday afternoons.

The Arts Center is located at 11 River Glen Drive on the Cayuga College Fulton Campus.
