Meet the Newest Lakers

The Oswego state Mens  ACHA D1 hockey team held tryouts last week for the 2013-14 team and a record 68 players tried out for 29 roster spots.

With so many talented players trying out, the coaching staff had a hard time narrowing the team down to just 29.

The following players will be representing Oswego State this year in the NECHL:

The new freshmen are:

Goaltender Jim Albright who played for the Syracuse Cougars last year;
Robert Colyvas, a defenseman who played for the Jr. Royals;
Nic Epping, a former member of the Webster Thomas high school varsity team;
Austin Frost, a defenseman who comes to Oswego from the New Jersey Rockets Junior A;
Jonathan Gianchetta, who played for the Freeport Arrows;
Michael Lucarelli is an alumnus of the Greece Thunder varsity team;
Matt Peters comes to Oswego from Niagara Wheatfield High School;
Michael Pisaresky is a native of Brooklyn who last played for the New Mexico Renegades;
Andrew Schutt,a former player for  the Binghamton Jr. Senators
Devin Smith, Brendon Wormley and Nick Winters are all from Saratoga and were members of the Saratoga High School State Championship team; and
Kegan Storjohann whose hometown is Anthem, Arizona, and  last played for the Twin City Steel of the NAHL.

Joining the new freshmen are juniors Ben Paige and Devin Coon who are graduates of Monroe Community College and Teris Wright, a native of the Netherlands who last played for County College of Morris in New Jersey. He was also a member of the Dutch National Team that won the silver medal in the World Hockey Championships.

These new players join 13 returning players to make up the new team.

The Lakers open their season on Sept. 21 when they host D2 powerhouse Siena College from Albany.

The puck will drop at the Campus Center at 7 p.m.

Oswego will travel the next weekend to nationally ranked John Carroll University and Mercyhurst University for two non-league games.

The Lakers are a D1 ACHA hockey team and a member of the NECHL.
