MEXICO – Mexico High School’s Swimming and Diving team recently celebrated its 25th season.
Shawn Parkhurst, Mexico Academy and Central School District aquatics coordinator and Varsity Boys’ Swimming and Diving head coach, said the district is proud of its students who have succeeded in hundreds of meets and championship events from 1993-2018.
Throughout the past two and a half decades, both the boys’ and girls’ varsity programs have compiled the following accolades:
28 individual Section III Class B champions in 62 events (22 boys and six girls), 21 section III Class B relay champions (17 boys and 4 girls), seven section III Class B boys’ team championships (2000, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2018), three Onondaga High School League boys’ championships (2009, 2010 and 2018), four George Falwell Cup individual champions in nine events, one George Falwell Cup relay champion, 15 New York State championship individual qualifiers in 39 events, five New York State championship relay qualifiers, one New York State champion diving (2013), three individual All-American for seven recognitions and one New York State Small School Boys #1 ranking (2009).
Parkhurst added that the 2017-2018 swimming program ended strong and he offered congratulatory wishes to graduating seniors, and said he will welcome additional swimmers to the program in the 2018-2019 school year.
