OSWEGO, NY – Oswego’s Democratic Action Women’s Network, DAWN, is once again organizing its Eleanor Roosevelt Recognition Award event.
“We’re reaching out to the community to ask their help to identify those women who exemplify the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt and who have made a difference in the community,” said Amy Tresidder, Oswego County legislator and DAWN member.
“The work they do in the community is one of the criteria, she added. “Equally important is their professional success.”
Nomination forms can be found via the link at www.oswegodemocrats.com
“We ask members of an independent panel to select the finalists,” Tresidder said. “The main goal is to identify and recognize a woman of distinction in the community. They look at volunteer work, involvement with community projects or with organizations or independent groups that help make the community a better place to work and live.”
The Eleanor Roosevelt Recognition Award recognizes Oswego County Democratic women who exemplify the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt.
Eleanor was active in public service and an advocate for human rights, women’s and children’s issues and left us a legacy of courage and unselfish commitment to service, justice, leadership and compassion.
This is the second event organized by DAWN.
“We started the Eleanor Roosevelt Recognition Award in 2012. The event was an instant success with a huge reception attended by Syracuse’s mayor, Stephanie Miner and congressional candidate for Congress, Dan Maffei,” DAWN president and committee chairperson Heidi Schickling said. “We look forward to honoring another Oswego woman this year who exemplifies leadership through her profession and activities in the community giving back and paying it forward. Martha Hammill deservedly took home the award last year.”
