The 20thAnnual CNY Pumpkin Festival, Oct. 1-2 in Washington Square Park and presented by the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce (GOFCC), offers visitors a new ‘Power For Kids’ tent and the opportunity to enter a decorated pumpkin contest with all proceeds going to a local charity, it was announced by Beth Hilton, GOFCC executive director.
The event runs Sat. Oct. 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sun. Oct. 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. Major sponsors are the City of Oswego and PathFinder Bank.
“As always, there will be games and rides for the kids, more than 50 craft vendors, great food and live entertainment both days,” Hilton said. “Saturday is the day to come to see entries and winners for heaviest pumpkin, squash and watermelon from growers throughout the state. The weigh-off runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
“First prize for the heaviest pumpkin is $1,200. Last year’s winner was over 1,400 pounds—that’s a lot of pumpkin pies! In addition to heaviest pumpkin, there is a $500 first prize for heaviest squash and a $100 first prize for heaviest watermelon. There are also prizes for Largest Oswego County Pumpkin, Prettiest Pumpkin, Prettiest Squash, and Heaviest Field Pumpkin, among others.
“The new decorated pumpkin contest for charity and the Power For Kids tent are exciting additions this year. For a donation, children under 12 can enter the decorated pumpkin contest with all proceeds going to a local charity. Divisions will include carved, painted and decorated with gourds, which will be available onsite. Complete details are on the Chamber web site at: www.oswegofultonchamber.com/pumpkinfest.
“Power For Kids” is an interactive educational experience on how power is produced locally. It’s sponsored by Constellation Energy, Entergy, Dynegy, NRG and Brookfield Power, as well as Novelis.”
