Boil Water Order Lifted for Most Town of Scriba Water District Residents

TOWN OF SCRIBA, TOWN OF VOLNEY (NORTH), TOWN OF NEW HAVEN – Most residents served by the Town of Scriba public water system no longer need to boil their drinking water. The boil water order issued on Tuesday, Jan. 21 was partially rescinded today for the majority of the residents served by the water system.

The boil water order does remain in effect for Wine Creek Apartments in Oswego until Wednesday, Jan. 29 when bacteriological testing can be completed.

Oswego County Public Health Director Vera Dunsmoor said that repairs were made to the water mains and bacteriological sampling has been completed for the rest of the district.

“The results show us that the water is now safe for residents to drink and use for cooking,” she said. “We would like to thank the Scriba Town Supervisor, the City of Oswego Water Department and the City of Oswego Department of Public Works for their efforts to protect the health of residents served by the Town of Scriba public water system during this time.”

Officials said that two water main breaks caused a loss of pressure in town’s water system. Residents were advised to boil water until the system could be repaired and testing showed the water was safe for consumption.
