The following is updated information from Central Square School District Superintendenet Thomas Colabufo concerning New York State’s school mask mandate:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you are aware from a previous parent/guardian letter we sent out on Tuesday, March 1, masking in schools and on buses became optional effective Wednesday, March 2, 2022, per Governor Hochul’s announcement on Sunday, February 27.

Late Tuesday night, all NYS school superintendents received the actual revised guidance, seen in the links below:

Some important parts of the revised State regulations (above) to be aware of moving forward:

  • Masking is optional in schools and on buses effective March 2, 2022.
  • In all settings, masking continues to be required upon return from isolation (for students and staff that tested positive for COVID-19) during days 6 through 10 after COVID-19 infection.
  • Any student or staff member that is determined to be a “close contact” is required to wear a mask for 10 days in school and on the bus.
  • Available COVID-19 Test Kits:

The District was provided a substantial and ongoing supply of COVID-19 test that we are now able to provide parents/guardians and staff on a regular basis. These tests are being delivered to each of our six schools, and will be stored in each school’s main office, and will be available upon request for any parent/guardian that would like them.

We will not be distributing the COVID-19 test kits directly to students because of the chemical reagent inside each test kit. We thank all of you for your continued patience and support.
Sincerely,

Thomas J. Colabufo
Superintendent
