Empire Interpreting Service (EIS), is co-sponsoring the Syracuse debut of “See What I’m Saying,†a documentary following four deaf entertainers.  Prior to the showing of the movie, professional theater workshops are also planned April 16-17. “The film had its Hollywood debut on March 18 said Theresa Slater, EIS President/CEO.
“We’re tremendously excited to be a part of this milestone event that will feature Hilari Scarl, the film’s director, and CJ Jones one of the deaf entertainers in the film,†Slater said. “The deaf community and interpreters will be able to attend workshops and have the rare opportunity of meeting Ms. Scarl and Mr. Jones.
“Workshops will be held at the Maplewood Inn, 400- 7th North St., Liverpool, and the film will be shown at 7:00 p.m., April 17, at the Palace Theatre, 2384 James St., Syracuse. General admission is $10 at the door Information for participating can be found at www.empireinterpreting.com/SWIS.html.
“More than 30 million deaf people reside in the United States,†Slater said. “This population has extremely few opportunities to enjoy theatrical films at a movie theater. ‘See What I’m Saying’ is a source of emotional pride within the deaf community and is the first ever open captioned film in wide commercial release in American cinema history.â€Â
