OSWEGO – Kindergarteners at Fulton’s Fairgrieve Elementary received a recent visit from the Children’s Museum of Oswego, resulting in a morning of exciting play and learning.
On Wednesday, January 31, staff members from the Children’s Museum of Oswego travelled to Fairgrieve Elementary, bringing with them a number of unique mobile exhibits to promote student interaction and play. Throughout the morning, kindergarten classes were invited to join the visitors in the school’s temporarily-transformed cafeteria, allowing them to experience everything from stacking blocks and slime to light tables and a popular air cannon which shot out streams of silk.
The CMOO was invited by kindergarten teacher Christie Li who organized the event for the school’s kindergarten classes, including her own. She hoped to give students an opportunity to experience unique activities outside the classroom while incorporating STEAM into the school day. Throughout the morning, student experiences focused on cooperative play, problem solving and critical thinking. The event also emphasized social-emotional goals like self-regulation and growth mindset.
“All of the exhibits and activities fostered teambuilding, planning and forethought,” Li noted. “And it’s important for the kids to know about community programs and spaces that are available for local children and families. They all had a blast and are already talking about going to the Children’s Museum with their family and friends.”
For Fairgrieve, this is the first event in partnership with the CMOO. Li hopes its success will lead to more opportunities for the Fulton school district in the future.
