Fulton Celebration of Community Music Set for May 15

The Fulton Music Association’s 13th Annual Celebration of Community Music will be presented on Saturday, May 15, 7:30 p.m., at the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium, it was announced by Steve Chirello, FMA president.

“ New additions this year include the Classic Touch barbershop quartet featuring Barney Johnson, tenor; Dave Hubalek, lead; John Howe, bass; and Roger Wells, baritone. We will also be presenting Irving Berlin’s ‘America’ that combines the Fulton Community Band with choirs from several local churches. Among these are First United Methodist, State Street Methodist and Holy Trinity Catholic church.

Joe Cortini and the Cortini Jazz Experience will perform at the Fulton Celebration of Community Music,7:30 p.m., Sat. May 15, in the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium.

This event will also present the Fulton Music Association senior music awards. Winners of these awards will perform as well.

The concert will also feature performances by: the Cortini Brothers Jazz Experience, the Fulton Community Band under the direction of Carol Fox, and the Hamer Sing-Along group.  In addition to Berlin’s  “America,” the community band will also be performing “Folk Song Suite” by Vaughn Williams, Music from  “Kiss Me Kate,” Von Suppe’s “Light Cavalry Overture” and “Lexicon” march by Ed Huckeby.

All concert participants are generously donating their time to help raise funds for FMA,” Chirello said. “In addition to helping high school students receive FMA awards this spring, FMA members will continue to help sponsor Fulton’s summer concert series, the piano recital series presented in cooperation with the SUNY Oswego Music Dept., and bring special performances by the Syracuse Symphony and others, like the U.S Army’s 10th Mountain Div. Band right here to Fulton.”

Tickets for the event, which can be purchased at the door, are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens.
