WILLIAMSTOWN, NY – The Altmar Parish Williamstown Educational Foundation honored two students from the A.P.W. Class of 2008 by presenting them with $500 college scholarships.

The awards, designed to recognize students who demonstrate good character in their community and school life while maintaining a strong commitment to academic performance and a desire to serve others, were presented to Susan Fassler and Kelly Kugler, both of Amboy, during the annual Senior Award Recognitions, held at Katie and Karl’s restaurant, Camden, on June 10.

It just goes to show that we have so many wonderful and talented individuals in our community.”

Susan will be attending SUNY Environmental Science & College at Syracuse University majoring in biology and chemistry.

She also plans to take political science courses at Syracuse University.

Kelly will be attending SUNY Cobleskill and major in Marketing Communication.

Her plans are to go on for her masters in Business.

The students will use the money to help defray the cost of tuition, books, or a computer.

The APW Educational Foundation was started in 2005 by a group of alumni, school administrators and other concerned individuals.

The winners were selected from a pool of applicants by a committee of volunteers.

The name of every applicant was withheld from the committee during the essay review process to ensure fairness.

The money for these awards came from private donations.

“APW has provided a solid educational footing for so many individuals over the years,” said Benedetto (Class of ’83). “Those involved with the foundation believe that these monetary awards provide an excellent way for us to give something back to the community. We’re hopeful that, through efforts like this, more of our students will pursue higher education as a means of reaching their full potential.”

The foundation is run by a volunteer board and organized as a not-for-profit corporation with tax exempt status under Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Such designation makes it beneficial for alumni and others to make charitable donations.
