FULTON – To my fellow constituents, my name is Audrey L. Avery and I will be running for Fifth Ward city council this November.

Being a life-long resident of this city, it gives me great pride to give back to the place that I call home, she said.

My husband, Charles, and I own a Victorian home just along Voorhees Park, which we strive to upkeep as a model for what our community, is capable of being.

Creating an enjoyable atmosphere for residents and new business possibilities starts with the community and so we lead by example.

I have been an active member of the Friends of Fulton parks project in an effort to bring in funding for our public attractions where families can get together and enjoy our little city.

I am also our block leader for the Fulton Block Builders association and have helped secure funding for many residents to reconstruct the curb appeal to further enhance our reputation to outsiders.

Both organizations have served us well in the quest for community improvement, and this is just the beginning.

Bringing extra funds to our city through business opportunities and other sources is obviously crucial to our development and resurgence.

I feel that delivering the right atmosphere to our society will foster the interest for future growth opportunities.

I am also reinstating our Fifth Ward neighborhood watch group to help law enforcement stop the drug activity and other senseless crimes in our city.

I am running for Fifth Ward city council to further my ability to get our city more attractive not only for all of us who drive these roads daily, but for the growth potential that having an attractive spirit will provide.

Bringing our city pool back, repaving roads and cleaning up the sidewalks are not impossible tasks, but we do need the funds to do so and I do not feel it should come from an increased burden on the homeowners and taxpayers.

The goal here is to increase interest in residency and commerce and pulling money from our hard working citizens is not the answer.

While there may be no overnight fix for every single issue, taking continued steps in the right direction will get us to where we want to be.

As your city councilman – and with all of your continued support – I will help us steer Fulton back to its roots.

Taking a stand and allowing residents to voice their opinions on what matters most will bring unity and pride to our culture and together we can make all of this possible.

In gaining your support for this November’s election, I will then have the opportunity to serve you and this great city that I have always loved so dearly.
