FULTON –  In recognition of the 60th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s landmark Economic Opportunity Act, Fulton Mayor Jim Rice proclaimed May 2024 as Community Action Month. The mayor cited Oswego County Opportunities, the community action agency for Oswego County, for its unwavering commitment to improving the lives of individuals and families in areas such as housing, nutrition, education, employment and more.

“The month of May presents an opportunity for us to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of Oswego County Opportunities to the well-being and prosperity of our community. OCO plays a vital role in fostering a stronger, more resilient community by addressing the root causes of poverty and advocating for those facing economic, social and health-related challenges. In recognition of the hard work that Oswego County Opportunities does for the City of Fulton and the surrounding communities I am pleased to proclaim May 2024 as Community Action Month.”

OCO has been fighting poverty in its many forms since 1966. With more than 50 human services programs that serve approximately 15,000 people each year OCO is committed to helping people, supporting communities, changing lives, and improving the quality of life for Oswego County residents.
