FULTON, NY – The Fulton Art Association will present its 40th Annual Art Show and Competition this weekend, May 18 and 19.
It will be held in the Community Room at the Municipal Building, 141 S. First St.
The show opens Saturday at 10 a.m. and goes until 8 p.m., and again Sunday 2-4 p.m.
An artists’ reception will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, providing a venue with several artists
available for comments on techniques.
Sunday throughout the afternoon there is viewer’s choice voting, with a ribbon for the
best piece as voted by attendees.
In 1973, under the leadership of Doris Simpson, first president, a group of dedicated artists created the Fulton Art Association to promote an appreciation of arts and culture, as well as to encourage and guide new artists.
The Fulton-based organization has reached out to artists ranging from Williamson to Manlius, to Boonville.
The backgrounds of the artists are varied.
Many are artists and photographers who are working or retired from other occupations, while several involved in the organization are career artists.
Some are beginning artists still in school and may be as young as 12 years of age.
The goal of the organization is to provide an environment which encourages the new artist, while providing a learning environment for experienced artists.
Sponsorship and donations of local vendors have supported the Fulton Art Association for 40 years.
Current President Kathy Mihalek thanks them for their continued support.
