FULTON, NY – One of Fulton’s biggest weekend celebrations is upon us yet again.

Memorial Day is Monday, May 30 and Fulton plans to continue its traditional holiday festivities this weekend with the 35th annual Memorial Day Salute, an entire weekend full of food, fun and most importantly, remembrance of our nation’s fallen military persons.

In it’s 35th year, the Memorial Day Salute continues to be organized by four Fulton service clubs including Noon Rotary, Sunrise Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Club, as assisted by the Fulton Veterans’ Council and sponsored by the city of Fulton.

The festivities kick off with the carnival ride portion of the weekend beginning today (Friday, May 27) from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Fulton War Memorial.

The fun continues Saturday morning (May 28) at 10 a.m. with the Memorial Day parade sponsored by Pathfinder Bank. The parade crosses the entire city following Route 3, leading to the rides, food and entertainment at the Fulton War Memorial and Community Ice Rink.

This year, the parade theme is “Support Our Veterans” and parade entries will be designed and decorated to honor this theme.

Alan C. Deline, selected by the Fulton Veterans’ Council as the 2016 Veteran of the Year, will lead this year’s parade as Grand Marshal.

With a very child friendly focus and a warm weather forecast, this parade is sure to be a big hit for the hundreds of people that line the street to watch.

Following the parade, entertainment will be provided on stage at the Fulton Community Ice Rink as sponsored by Fulton Savings Bank.

Starting at 1:30-2:30 p.m., Off Broadway Dance Center will perform, next will be Fulton Dixieland Band from 3 – 4 p.m. followed by Fulton Community Band from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. and the main event to finish the night, Ruby Shooz will hit the stage from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.

All the while, rides will be available from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday in the War Memorial parking lot.

To finish Saturday’s fun, fireworks will be launched over Lake Neatahwanta starting at 9:30 p.m. sponsored by Community Bank.

Visit the Fulton Memorial Day Salute website for more information.

The commemoration will continue on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30) with Honor Guard scheduled at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery and 9:30 a.m. at Mount Adnah Cemetery.

At 10:15 a.m., there will be a ceremony held at the Veterans’ Area in front of the Fulton War Memorial that will include multiple local veteran speakers to share their stories.

Lunch will follow at the Fulton VFW Post #569.

Aside from the parade, rides, food and fun, this holiday weekend exists to honor and remember those who risked the ultimate sacrifice to make these things available.
