A 10 hour standoff on Cayuga St. in Fulton is over.
A Sheriff’s Department SWAT team fired tear gas canisters into a home at 512 Cayuga St. to flush out a man who police said was holding a woman at knifepoint.
The end came at about 10:30 am, ending a standoff that Fulton Police Inv. Mike Batstone said began with a call for a domestic dispute between a husband and wife in the upstairs apartment at 512 Cayuga St. at about midnight.
Batstone said the man barricaded himself inside the home.
Police talked with him through the night to try to get him to end the stalemate peacefully. Meantime, the Sheriff’s Department SWAT unit arrived, as did a police dog loaned from Onondaga County.
Officers shut off access to the neighborhood. A neighbor posted on her Facebook page of seeing police in full riot gear walking on her street.
A little before 10:30, the talking ended. Police moved in behind the tear gas and put both the husband and wife in handcuffs. Batstone said the wife was not a suspect but it is routine in these situations to put everyone in handcuffs until they can be removed safely and the facts can be sorted out.
Police arrested Jason W. Clark, 34. Batstone said that paperwork on the arrest is being done now, so the exact charges against Clark are not yet known.
Clark will be arraigned on the charges later this afternoon, though a time has not been set.
Clark’s reason for holding his wife at the point of a knife? “We’re still trying to figure that out,” said Batstone.

The standoff on Cayuga St. has ended. Police fired tear gas into the home to drive out the two people inside. They were taken away in handcuffs and the police lockdown of the neighborhood is ending.

On 1/3/10 at 11:57 PM Fulton Police were dispatched to the 500 Block of Cayuga Street in Fulton for a reported Domestic Dispute. Upon police arrival a person fled from an apartment and reported there were two people inside and one had a knife. Contact has been made with a person inside the residence and the person is refusing to come outside or to cooperate any further. At this time it cannot be confirmed if this is a hostage situation. The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team has responded to the scene as well as a canine from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department. Police are still on the scene at this time.
