The City of Fulton’s NYS HOME Program Application for Housing Rehabilitation has been selected by the Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC) and the Office of Community Renewal (OCR) with an award of $585,000, it was announced by Jessica Mills, executive director, Fulton Community Development Agency (CDA).
“People who have applied for rehabilitation funding who have been on a waiting list for several years, will now be a priority, “ Mills said. Therefore, those families who are on the waiting list do not need to apply. We have six families who started home rehabilitation in early 2020, but the program was shut down due to COVID, and we have more than 30 families on the waiting list who call monthly to check on funding. This will be welcome news to all of them.”
According to Mills, the Housing Rehabilitation grant will go toward the city’s Bright Neighborhoods Housing Initiatives to rehabilitate approximately 10 severely distressed single-family homes owned by low- and very low-income owners. An average of $58,500 per eligible home will be provided as a deferred loan to make needed health and safety upgrades including new roofs, heating systems, hot water heaters, electrical service replacement and smoke and CO detectors, new steps, porches, and railings, and energy efficiency and lead-based paint hazard reduction.
“I am grateful to the Fulton CDA staff who have worked tirelessly to maintain a great working relationship with our state partners and program managers,” Mills said. “Thank you to Mayor Michaels and the City of Fulton for the allocation of the ARPA funds that we were able to reinvest in applying for this grant and assist us in re-starting our first housing rehab program in more than a decade.”
