Voters decide today whether the Fulton City School District will be able to take full advantage of the state’s offer to pay for infrastructure improvements.
The district is holding a vote today on two propositions.
One would spend $2.75 million to replace the aging boilers at G. Ray Bodley High School, tackle security needs such as better lighting and keyless door locks and improve wiring for the district’s computer networks.
The other would spend $1.1 million to repair roofs at Fulton Junior High School and Fairgrieve Elementary School.
Nearly all of the project would be covered by state EXCEL aid, which is special aid from the state for infrastructure improvements. EXCEL aid would cover all of the boiler, security and wiring project and most of the roof repair project. The remaining portion of roof repair work would be covered by regular state aid for building projects.
No local tax increase is projected to be needed for the project, though district officials have been careful to say there’s “minimal to no local share of costs”.
If approved, some of the work would be done in 2010, alongside work being done in the current construction project, and the rest in 2011.
Voting takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the four elementary schools.
