Staats, a resident of Brewerton, is currently the assistant superintendent for instruction in the Rome City School District.

He previously worked in the Central Square and Whitesboro school districts.

According to HCSD Board of Education President Mike LaFurney, Staats’ qualifications and experience propelled him to the top of a strong field of 26 applicants.

“The board is excited to have Chris as its new leader to continue the implementation of the district’s strategic plan,” LaFurney said. “We are very fortunate to have Chris; he brings a wealth of experience to Hannibal and he has a long track record of instructional leadership.”

Staats is expected to begin his service for the district Jan. 4, 2016.

In the meantime, Pete Backus will continue to serve the district in an interim capacity, a role he assumed in August upon Fountain’s retirement. missing or outdated ad config
