FULTON – Mayor Deana Michaels has appointed Fulton business owners to a Fulton COVID-19 Small Business Advisory Board to advise the mayor on how to keep businesses functioning during the COVID-19 Crisis, how they can reopen safely and productively and how the city and its businesses can build resiliency for the future.

“Small business is the heartbeat of any community. For our city to thrive we must have a robust local economy,” Michaels said. “Now more than ever, the business community needs a voice and a strong city partner.  The City of Fulton wants to learn not only how we can be more business friendly but as a result of the COVID pandemic, how we as a community survive it, overcome it,  and build future resiliency as a result of it. We are all in this together and we know that a successful community relies heavily on the success of our business community.  By coming together now to discuss the challenges and opportunities, take immediate next steps and plan for the future, we will be able to bring our local community back stronger and better than ever.”

The members of the COVID-19 Small Business Advisory Board represent a diverse cross-section of the business community including salons, real estate, recreation, veterinary, retail, behavioral health and restaurants.

The meetings will be conducted with through teleconference or video conferences.

“The voice of the community is important which is why I decided to move in this direction with a COVID Small Business Advisory Board,” Michaels said in an email. “These individuals are the experts in what it takes to run a successful business and stimulate our local economy. The board members chosen were done so to be a voice of the community.  While these are not open meetings and not required to be, one of the goals of the board will be to collect feedback from the community to be used in our strategy moving forward.”

“I look forward to working with Mayor Michaels and the Fulton Small Business Advisory Board to bring our strong community and business community back stronger than ever,” said Anita Runeare owner of B&T Sports. “We are all in this together and have to continue to support each other. We are Fulton Strong!”

“My grandfather always told me what you take from a community you should give back.  I look forward to giving back some of what this community has given me and my business,” said Bill Walberger owner of Reflections Hair Salon.

  1. Mayor it sounds all good….but there is one major problem…this is fulton..it will never be what it was or what it could be…nobody listens to what we need..you have people in positions that are there for the pay check..im so disappointed with all that has NOT happened in this city….i spend my cash in Oswego..where the mayor there knows whats going on around him…just saying…he is making oswego shine…WHY ON EARTH NOBODY LISTENED TO WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS BEYOND ME….why are all these people moving on…I WONDER WHY…come out side and look around..you pounded the pavement to get the postion.
.pound it to see WHAT NEEDS THE PEOPLE WANT…ive asked the mayor for a quick meeting..that im offering a service for our VETERANS…nope no meeting not even a visit to the music studio ….THANKS MAYOR.

BUT IM MOVIN ON…WITHOUT YOU…the veterans affairs office is ALSO NO HELP…maybe us veterans should all get together and come visit both office’s…build a 60thousand dollar staircase…REALLY..ill just drive down there …i cant walk that many stairs…the north bay campground…theres another joke…why does a city own a campground…..WOW….why dont you buy a gentleman’s club…where nestle site…

  2. Off to a great start! Not! She not only doesn’t pound the pavement, she doesn’t return or take emails seriously either. Maybe too busy with her other job. Still no accountability, enforcement or change for the better. If the issue at hand doesn’t affect them personally, city government sticks their heads in the sand like past Fulton government. Priorities are all wrong. Small business advisory board? Maybe they can help our new mayor and her staff at their jobs! We won’t even enforce the city’s written codes or conservation laws. We heard what you said, but we see what you do.

  3. Mr. Fitzgerald,

It’s unfortunate that you believe that you’ve received no assistance from the local veterans office as the agency has a very strong reputation of positively impacting the lives of our veterans. Please feel free to come down anytime to discuss how we can better assist you and your needs. As we’ve discussed before, the Agency can not establish a new organization for you but provided you resources with how to go about getting the proposed program going. Again, please reach out if you’d like to discuss.

Thank you for your service and stay safe!
