VOLNEY, NY – Project officials at Northeast Biofuels are in the final stages of preparation to start production at Oswego County’s new ethanol plant.
Plant manager Brian Roach said that the first stages of that production could come within a week.
“Within the next seven to 10 days, we will be grinding corn,†Roach said Wednesday.
Roach explained that the project timeline is behind schedule and that it has had an affect on the original plans.
“Time is money,†he said. He noted, however, that there was no specific reason for the delays.
“There were discoveries made associated with the start up of a company this large…,†Roach said. “But there were no specific issues.â€ÂÂ
Once the plant begins grinding corn, Roach said the next step is to get the plant stable and optimized. From there, the focus will be day to day operations and keeping an eye on the ethanol market.
He said ethanol production will take five to six days from the start of the corn process.
To date, Roach said there are approximately one-half a million bushels of corn on site. All of the product except one 85-car train was trucked in from local growers, he said.
Roach noted that Northeast Biofuels has established a customer base for the launch of its product.
“We have companies working directly with us,†he said. “We have a large marketing company… working with us and we are in discussions with local distributors.â€ÂÂ
Roach said the company expects to make an announcement of its opening soon.
“Once we are up and running and get a chance to take a breath, we will make an announcement,†he said.
