OSWEGO, NY – Oswego County unveiled its new tourism Web site, at www.visitoswegocounty.com during National Tourism Week. The launch began today (May 12).
It could take up to three days for some servers to make the transition to the new site.
Located in central New York on the southeastern shore of Lake Ontario, Oswego County is known for its world-class sportfishery, pristine rivers and streams, and rich history.
The tourism site, which was completely re-designed, contains stunning photographs, detailed maps, current fishing conditions, and several interactive features to help visitors plan their trip.
“I am excited about the new Web site and am very anxious for the public to get a look at it,†said County Legislator Shawn Doyle, chairman of the Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee. “The site is fresh, information-packed and very user-friendly. The blogs that the staff will be writing will give visitors up-to-date information and tips to help plan their visits.â€ÂÂ
Tourism-related businesses including charter captains and fishing guides, tackle shops, hotels and motels, campgrounds, bed and breakfasts, and restaurants across the county are listed, with contact information, directions and direct links to businesses with Web sites.
The county’s rich history is explored with sections on museums and historic sites with map features and Web links. Visitors who are tracing their genealogy will be able to locate historians, cemeteries and other records.
“The new tourism site spotlights our beautiful natural resources, history, and recreational opportunities,†said County Administrator Philip Church. “The Web site is very user-friendly. I commend tourism director Dave Turner and his staff for their hard work in creating a dynamic and comprehensive site. It’s an important economic development tool for Oswego County.â€ÂÂ
The site contains three blogs that highlight fishing and hunting, outdoor adventure, arts and cultural events, and nature in Oswego County.
Spider Rybaak, an award-winning outdoor writer and author of two New York State fishing guides, will write about his angling and hunting experiences.
Public Information Officer Jessica Trump will write a humorous column about her outdoor adventures in hunting, fishing, and other endeavors, and Public Information Officer Kelly Jordal will write about exploring out-of-the-way places well as concerts and artistic events taking place in Oswego County.
Other features include a photo gallery, hiking and bicycling trails, snowmobiling and winter sports, farm markets, birding, racetracks, boating, and visitor information.
Content and graphics were developed by the staff of the Oswego County Community Development, Tourism and Planning Department.
The site architecture was designed by L & P Media of Troy, the firm which designed the I Love New York site for the New York State Department of Economic Development.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, which oversees the Community development, Tourism and Planning Department, saw a preview of the site a few weeks ago.
In addition to Legislator Doyle, District 3, the committee includes vice chairman Morris Sorbello, District 23; Kim Seager, District 10; Arthur Gearsbeck, District 6; Douglas Malone, District 20; and Louella LeClair, District 25.
